Marrakech Train Station — Overview

The current station opened on August 10, 2008, replacing the original building constructed in 1923 during the French protectorate era. The old station was located along Hasan II Avenue, within walking distance of the French Quarter and the Royal Theatre. The newly constructed station is the southern end point of the Moroccan railway system, located in the Guéliz district and marking the terminus of ONCF's national network, which spans 4,225 km. It was built 100 metres closer to the city centre to facilitate the future extension of the rail network towards Agadir and Laayoune, with tracks extended in 2008 to accommodate a growing number of direct connections. There are two direct connections to Tangier daily, and the station area features several shops, fast-food restaurants including a KFC, a cafe bar, ATMs, and a nearby Ibis Hotel. The station accepts Apple Pay alongside standard payment methods.

Al Atlas Trains — Primary Service from Marrakech

The primary service from Marrakech Train Station is the Al Atlas train, operated by ONCF. Classic Al Atlas trains connect Marrakech to major cities including Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, and Fes, and are air conditioned with reserved seats in both first class and economy class. Fares vary depending on the route and class selected. On certain corridors, Al Atlas runs as double deck trains, increasing capacity on popular routes. Journey time to Casablanca is 2 hours 38 minutes, to Rabat around 3.5 hours, and to Fes approximately 7 hours 10 minutes with a change at Casablanca Voyageurs.
Al Boraq High Speed Train and Overnight Train
Al Boraq is Morocco's high speed train and the first of its kind in Africa, started running in November 2018 on the Tangier Ville–Rabat–Casablanca line at speeds up to 320 km/h. It does not serve Marrakech directly, but travellers can connect to Al Boraq at Casablanca Voyageurs — tickets start from 28 EUR and should be booked in advance. For longer journeys, Marrakech also serves as the departure point for overnight trains to Oujda via Casablanca, Rabat Agdal, Sidi Kacem, and Fes. Reserved seats are mandatory on overnight services and booking ahead is strongly recommended, especially during August and peak holiday periods

Casablanca Train and ONCF Trains — Routes and Connections

The Marrakech to Casablanca train is the most popular route, with trains departing frequently from early morning to late evening and a journey time of 2 hours 38 minutes to Casablanca Voyageurs — the main interchange for connections to Casa Port, Rabat Ville, and the ONCF Airport Express at Ain Sebaa. Direct connections also run to Tangier (around 5 hours), Fes (approximately 7 hours 10 minutes), and Oujda. The direct rail link to Tangier is convenient for travellers continuing to Europe via ferry. For destinations not served by rail — such as Agadir, Essaouira, and Ouarzazate — Supratours buses operate from a terminal adjacent to the station.

How to Buy Train Tickets at Marrakech Station

Train tickets can be purchased online up to 6 months before departure, at the station ticket desk, or at automated kiosks. Tickets booked online can be shown as a mobile e-ticket or printed. It is generally advisable to buy in advance as fares vary and popular routes sell out during peak periods. Children aged 0–3 travel free on all Moroccan trains, with discounts available for children aged 4–11. The website and kiosks accept standard cards and Apple Pay.
